Oyster on London Overground

Oyster cards are now valid on the London Overground network. This means you can pay as you go or load up a Travelcard season ticket on your card.

When you use London Overground services, you must always touch your Oyster card on the yellow card reader at the start and the end of your journey. If the ticket gates at stations are open, remember that you must still touch your Oyster card on the yellow card reader.

London Overground stations issue Oyster cards, renew tickets and top-up pay as you go credit. The only exception is Watford Junction station, where there are just top up facilities available.

Travelcard season tickets on Oyster

If you have a valid season ticket on your Oyster card, you can still use the card at stations where there is no yellow card reader or if it is not working. However, you may be asked instead to present your card (and photocard where needed) for inspection.

Paying as you go with your Oyster card

If you want to pay as you go on London Overground services, an entry charge of up to £5 (£5.50 at Watford Junction) will be deducted from your Oyster card when you touch in at the start of your journey.

When you touch out at the end of your journey, the charge will be adjusted so that you only pay the advertised Oyster single fare for that journey. But, if you do not touch in and out correctly, the charge is not adjusted and you lose the benefit of cheaper Oyster fares.

At stations where there are no ticket gates, you must use the yellow card readers provided. If you do not, you will be charged a maximum cash fare.

Using Oyster to pay as you go between Watford Junction and Euston (inclusive)

When using Oyster to pay as you go on Tube, DLR and London Overground services, higher Oyster fares apply Monday to Friday from 07:00 and before 19:00. Lower Oyster fares apply at all other times. However, between Watford Junction and Euston National Rail (including journeys between intermediate stations), the Peak Oyster fares apply as follows:

The fare charged is determined by the time at which you touch your card on the yellow card reader at the start of your journey. For example, if you plan to catch a train that leaves Euston after 19:00, but you touch in before 19:00, you will be charged the higher Oyster fare.
