Cycle Safety Action Plan

The Cycle Safety Action Plan sets out how cycling can be made safer in London.

Cycle casualties have fluctuated over the past two decades, but the general trend is downwards. The substantial increase in the number of cycling trips has been accompanied by a comparatively small increase in casualties. As such, the relative risk of cycling per trip is actually falling and cycling is getting safer.

This Action Plan aims to drive this positive trend forward.

The objectives of this plan are:

During the public consultation on the plan, TfL received over 400 comments and suggestions on how to improve cycle safety in London. We reviewed and considered how these might inform the Cycle Safety Action Plan. Our response to the public consultation outlines a number of popular themes raised and provides further information on improving the safety of cyclists.
