Environmental information
The EIRs give individuals the right to request access to environmental information held by TfL, subject to certain exceptions.
Environmental information covers a very wide spectrum of information about the state of the natural and built environment. This includes information about:
- Air, water, soil, land, flora and fauna (including how these effect human beings)
- Information on emissions and discharges (eg noise, energy, radiation, waste materials)
- Human health and safety
- Cultural sites and built structures (as they may be affected by the environmental factors listed above)
- Plans and administrative measures that affect these matters
How to make a request
Unlike Freedom of Information requests, requests for environmental information do not have to be in writing. However, it usually helps us to clarify the nature of the information requested if it is put in writing.
We will aim to respond to your request as soon as possible and within 20 working days. In exceptional cases, and in line with the regulations, we may extend this to 40 working days.
TfL aims to provide most information free of charge, although in some limited cases we may have to charge a fee.
More information about how and when we may charge is available in our EIR schedule of charges (PDF 27KB).
