Support
Skip to navigationIf you need help with a Transport for London (TfL) syndicated feed, please take a look at the list of common questions below.
If the answer you're looking for isn't below, please get in touch.
General
-
Are other live travel news feeds available?
Not yet, but we are working on it. Register your interest in more feeds.
-
Is it possible to use the feeds on a commercial basis?
No - you cannot charge the public directly or indirectly for the information we provide you.
-
Is it possible to offer TfL Syndicated feeds alongside a licensed Tube map (for example in a mobile phone application), and charge the public for the application to cover the licensing costs of the Tube map?
No - as we say above, you cannot charge the public directly or indirectly for information contained in our feeds.
-
Why is the station locations listing incomplete?
Sorry - but there will be a complete list in the near future.
-
Can I integrate with the Congestion Charge payments service?
Not at the moment. We may consider it in the future, depending on demand.
Technical
-
Do Tube status messages have a maximum number of characters? If so, how many?
No, but we generally keep our messages as brief as possible. Longer messages - which support something like 'severe delays', for example - are generally between 50 and 500 characters long.
-
Are these RSS feeds?
No.
-
Are the feeds accessible via a single IP?
No - they are hosted across multiple servers. Syndicated content is delivered by the server closest to you.
-
Can you supply the time/date in a machine-readable and human-readable format?
Yes. The header of each feed contains the published datetime in both a UTC-like (canonical) format and a RFC-822-compliant format. For example:
<PublishDateTime canonical="2008-08-27 18:15:04:923">Wed, 27 Aug 2008 19:15:04 GMT</PublishDateTime>
Design & Branding
-
Can I remove the Transport for London logo from a feed?
No. All TfL feeds must include branding as supplied. Filepaths to relevant TfL logos are supplied within the feeds and they must also not be removed or altered.
-
Can I modify the colour schemes in any of the feeds to suit my own site design?
No. All TfL syndicated feeds must use the official colour schemes as supplied within the feed.
Testing has shown that any deviation from the normal TfL colour scheme makes the information feel less trustworthy to customers. Keeping to these rules means people who use your feeds can be confident that the information is from an official source
