Transport for London

Planning applications

London skyline Planned developments that are of strategic importance are referred to the Mayor. They are known as referable planning applications.

They are automatically submitted to our Land Use Planning (LUP) department by either the Greater London Authority (GLA) or the local planning authority.

We tell them what effects these planning applications are likely to have on transport.

Find out more about:

Application stages

When we receive your planning application, a case officer will be assigned. Each case officer looks after a geographical area, as listed in Contacts.

You only need to take action if we ask for further information about transport in your application.

Assessment and advice

Our Guidance on transport assessment (PDF 514KB) will help you to produce your transport assessment report, which is part of the planning application documents. We also offer pre-planning application advice.
